What is KYC?

KYC is the one-time identity and address check you must complete before investing in mutual funds. It is recorded with a KYC registration agency and used by every fund house.

How it works

You need your PAN, an address proof such as Aadhaar, a photograph and your contact details. Aadhaar-based e-KYC can be completed online in minutes. Your KYC status is checked by every fund house before it accepts an investment.

Keep your KYC details current: a change of address, mobile number, email or tax residency must be updated so that statements and money reach you.

Example

Once your KYC shows as validated, you can start a SIP with any fund house using just your PAN.

Keep in mind

  • Use your own mobile number and email, never your distributor's.
  • If your KYC is on hold, it must be fixed before new investments.

Questions people ask

Do I need KYC for each fund house?

No. One KYC with a registration agency covers all fund houses.

How long does KYC take?

Online Aadhaar-based KYC is usually done in minutes and confirmed within a few days.
